Though I've rarely used public transport in the US, I took trains all the time in Europe and Asia, and LOVED it. No better way to observe people, and that zone-out time on the way to and from work was really relaxing to me.
I also found the set departure times liberating - for someone with ADHD, it takes the guess work out of "what time do I have to leave to get there?" and stopped my "I can just make up the time on the drive" magical thinking. I did have to run all-out in heels and hop a lot of fences to catch trains when I was late, though. Good cardio.
I wish we had better public transport in the US. I prefer trains to buses, but maybe if I spent more time on buses I'd grow to like them.
